Who we are

Redactor is a free, browser-based tool for permanently redacting PDF files, operated under the trading name Redactor (“we”, “us”). For contact details, see Contact below.

Your files

We do not collect, store, or receive your PDF files. Documents are opened and processed entirely within your browser on your device. File contents, metadata, and filenames are not uploaded to us.

Website data

Separately from your files, operating this website may involve limited technical information, such as:

• standard access logs held by our hosting provider (for example IP address, pages requested, and browser type);
• a theme preference stored locally in your browser (localStorage), if you choose light, dark, or system (follow your device) mode.

We do not currently use analytics, advertising, or non-essential cookies. If that changes, we will update this page first.

Why we use website data

Hosting logs are used to deliver and secure the site. Theme preferences are stored on your device for your convenience. If we later introduce advertising or analytics, we would rely on an appropriate lawful basis (such as consent where required) and update this policy.

How long we keep data

We do not hold your PDFs. Hosting logs are kept for as long as our provider requires for operation and security, after which they are deleted or anonymised in line with their practices. Theme preferences remain in your browser until you clear them.

Your rights

Where UK data protection law applies, you may have rights including access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection, and (in some cases) portability. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). To exercise rights relating to data we control, contact us as set out below.

Third-party services

Redactor is served as a static website through a content delivery network or hosting provider. That provider may process the technical data described above under its own privacy policy. It is not linked to your file contents.

If we introduce advertising in the future, ad partners may use cookies or similar technologies to deliver and measure ads, in line with their own privacy policies. Any advertising would relate only to the website. Your PDF files and redaction work would still be processed entirely in your browser and would never be shared with advertisers. We would update this page before enabling any such service.

Children

Redactor is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the redaction features of the site.

If you have a concern about how we handle personal data, you may contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time. You may also complain to the ICO if you are not satisfied.

We may update this page from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
